In 2010 we published the first edition of the Afena Capital Unpacking Jargon booklet in our aim to make a meaningful contribution towards investor education. The positive feedback from investors as well as other stakeholders has been humbling and a great source of inspiration for us.
In this third edition of Unpacking Jargon we have added approximately 100 new terms to the ones that were included in the previous edition. Some of these new terms reflect the changing dynamics in our industry. For
example, responsible investing is growing as a theme and strategy that investors must have a clear policy on. We have therefore tried to unpack some of the common terms in the area of responsible investing. These include terms like ESG, CRISA, UNPRI etc., which trustees are finding themselves having to engage with and develop policies around.
It is our wish for you to derive more value from this edition and enhance your learning as you carry out the important responsibilities of retirement fund trustees and stakeholders in the investment community. We’d like to sincerely thank you for taking an interest in this book and in this way, acting as an instrument of change in our country and demonstrating your commitment to looking after members’ interests. We hope that you will enjoy ‘unpacking the jargon’ yet again and sharing the knowledge with your colleagues, friends and families!
