Afena Secondary School Sponsorship Programme

In January 2012, the Afena Scholarship was expanded to a focus on financial support at a secondary school level with the launch of the Afena Secondary School Programme. To implement the programme, we have partnered with the Student Sponsorship Programme (SSP) and United Church School (UCS) and have made a commitment of R2.5 million over a period of five years.

SSP's mission is to provide academically distinguished and economically disadvantaged students with the opportunity to be educated at the best high schools in South Africa. UCS was started out of a need to provide quality and affordable education to the largely black community of school going children originally in a church hall in Yeoville.

We have broadened our focus to include secondary school education support as we would like to take the opportunity to unlock potential at the early stages of students' education.
