Afena Scholarship

The Afena Scholarship is a key component of our Social Economic Development strategy and specifically seeks to contribute to addressing the skills shortage in South Africa. The Scholarship takes guidance from the recognition that the shortage of suitably skilled labour is a major constraint to economic growth and development in South Africa.

JIPSA (the Joint Initiative for Priority Skills Acquisition) recognises listed areas of skills shortage which are specifically required to deliver on national priorities. These are mainly professional and technical skills directly required for sustainable economic growth and development of South Africa. The Afena Scholarship specifically seeks to fund currently disadvantaged black tertiary students who show academic excellence and leadership in these areas of study.

The Afena Scholarship is a full scholarship and covers costs pertaining to:

  1. Tuition, including registration
  2. Books and equipment
  3. On campus residence fees (including accommodation and meals) at the tertiary institution of study
  4. Living allowance
